The Sole Story — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2, 2026

The Sole Story runs this store and website — every page, feature, product and service on it — to bring you a curated shopping experience (the "Services"). We're powered by Shopify. This policy explains how we collect, use and share your personal information when you visit, shop, or reach out to us. If anything here conflicts with our Terms of Service, this policy governs how your personal information is handled.

Read it properly. Using the Services means you've read this and understand how your information moves through it.

What we collect. Depending on how you use the Services, we may collect:

  • Contact details — name, address, billing and shipping address, phone, email.
  • Financial information — card and account numbers, payment details, transaction records.
  • Account information — username, password, security questions, preferences.
  • Transaction information — what you view, cart, Wishlist, buy, return or cancel.
  • Communications — anything you tell us directly, like a support enquiry.
  • Device information — device, browser, network, IP address, other identifiers.
  • Usage information — how and when you interact with the Services.

Where it comes from. Directly from you (creating an account, browsing, getting in touch); automatically through the Services (cookies and similar tech); from our service providers acting on our behalf; and from partners or other third parties.

Why we use it.

  • To run and improve the Services — process payments, fulfil orders, manage your account, arrange shipping, handle returns and exchanges, personalise your shopping experience.
  • Marketing — email about products and promotions, and to show you relevant ads based on your activity, including past purchases.
  • Security and fraud prevention — authenticate your account, keep transactions safe, detect and act on fraudulent or malicious activity. Keep your login details to yourself — we won't ask for them, and neither should anyone claiming to be us.
  • Customer support — respond to you and maintain the relationship.
  • Legal reasons — comply with the law, respond to valid legal requests, and enforce our own terms and policies.

Who we share it with.

  • Shopify and other vendors who support us — payment processing, analytics, support, fulfilment, shipping.
  • Marketing and business partners, for advertising — including Shopify's personalised advertising tools, which draw on activity across different merchants. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to opt out of this kind of targeted advertising.
  • Anyone you've asked or consented to share with — shipping partners, social logins, that sort of thing.
  • Our affiliates and corporate group.
  • In a business transaction (like a merger), to meet legal obligations, or to protect the Services and the people who use them.

Our relationship with Shopify. Shopify hosts and powers the Services, and processes your information — including data shared across Shopify's wider merchant network — to help run and improve them, sometimes involving transfers outside of Australia. For Shopify's enhanced features, Shopify is responsible for that processing, including your requests to exercise your rights over it. Details live in Shopify's Consumer Privacy Policy, and depending on where you live, you can exercise rights directly through Shopify's Privacy Portal.

Other sites, other rules. Links to third-party sites aren't ours to police. We're not responsible for their privacy or security, and following one doesn't mean we're vouching for it. Anything you post on public platforms (including social media) is out of our hands, too.

This isn't for kids. The Services aren't intended for children, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. Parents or guardians who think we've collected a child's information can contact us to have it removed. As of this policy's effective date, we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing personal information belonging to anyone under 16.

Security, honestly. No system is bulletproof, and we can't promise perfect security — especially for information in transit. Don't send us anything sensitive over channels you don't trust. How long we hold your information depends on why we have it: running your account, meeting legal obligations, resolving disputes.

Your rights. Depending on where you live, you may be able to:

  • Access the personal information we hold on you.
  • Delete it.
  • Correct inaccuracies.
  • Port it — get a copy, or have us send it to someone else.
  • Manage marketing — unsubscribe from promotional emails any time; you'll still get order and account-related emails.

You can act on any of these through the Services or by contacting us below. For rights tied to data Shopify processes, visit privacy.shopify.com. We won't hold it against you for exercising them, though we may need to verify your identity first, and an authorised agent acting for you will need to prove that authority too.

Not happy? Tell us. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to appeal our response or lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Moving your data across borders. We may store and process your information outside of Australia

This policy will change. We'll update it as our practices, or the law, evolve — always with a fresh "Last updated" date, and notice where required.
